Yesterday, we spent the morning in Custer National Park in South Dakota, which is very close to Mount Rushmore. You can drive your car around the wildlife loop in the park and see all sorts of wild animals, the main draws being the buffalo and the burros. We were lucky enough to see a huge herd of buffalo before we even entered the park itself and as you can see there is not much for you to do until the herd passes.
Another highlight was the burros, who are always looking for food (we bought "donkey food" - carrots- from the local convenience store beforehand). The burros literally stick their heads into your car hoping for a handout.
